September evening musings

Alas, August was a post-less blog month for the ol' Sun and Shield. And it's a shame, for there were many blog-worthy moments to recount, as well as several times I'm sure I mused on a topic or two I wanted to share. Ah well. With a new month, nearly a new season, and a Jewish new year close at hand, here's a fresh attempt at updating often.

Currently playing on the stereo here is the album "Yellow and Red," some solo guitar work by a man named Mike Fekete (can't find much at his site, though he has a sample track. haven't listened to that one, though, since I'm sitting 5 feet from the music playing in the room and don't feel like stopping the flow of the CD's course... or like leaving the couch :P ). ((EDIT: just now listened, and while the track on the site is admirable, some parts of it sound discordant compared to the tracks I'm about to repeat listening to on the CD. Anyway... ))

I listened to this music with Micah F. during the start of our day off on Monday as we sipped coffee in the living room, eating our Greek yogurt & berries breakfast, and watching the tree branches sway in the grey drizzly outdoors beyond the front window. At one point I declared that I wished I lived in a house in the middle of the woods, with quilts, a couple cats, popcorn, books, candles, and coffee.... as long as Micah had a house close by, of course... maybe with a secret tunnel connecting our homes, and room for his future puppy to come visit and run around...

I don't live in the woods, per se, though this house is attended by its own little thicket. There aren't patchwork quilts draped casually over rustic furniture topped with purring kitties-- but my two cats snooze nearby on a desk chair and cushioned kitchen stool. I may not have an isolated cabin wherein all I need worry about is catching up on reading, writing, and learning to cook (oh... I must update soon about my delving into the cooking/baking world recently :) ), living daily life as I've only tasted it in daydreams or on vacation.

In fact, while I enjoy imagining myself in settings like that from time to time, I usually imagine them the most upon either hearing certain music, experiencing the approach and beginning of autumn, or when I'm stressed about my current situation and want to escape frustrations and responsibilities. I do have a lot to be thankful for in my life right now, with it being just the way it is, and I don't disregard how valuable this opportunity of teaching has been for me so far. However, I can't ignore this feeling that I'm not in my element. There's a lot of other stuff to be said when I say I feel that way, but it's a bit much to expand on here. All I'll say for now is that I have a lot to consider about where to go from here with my career path, but that along with these considerations come reasons to expect and hope for very good things... as well as all the more reason to trust the Lord in every way and not to lean on my own understanding of how things ought to be. Easier said than done, but God is good, the Maker of all good, and I choose to take His hand every day. :)
